Launched on JTBC on March 27, 2020, The World of The Married marked a turning point in Korean drama history. That is, the series surpassed SKY Castle, the highest-rated drama in the history of Korean cable television, and its final episode garnered a high audience of 28.371% in Korea. The World of The Married is based on the story Doctor Foster, written by Mike Bartlett and aired on BBC One. Here a married couple describes each other’s betrayal, revenge, grief, forgiveness, and the crises they face through it.

The World of The Married has been criticized by some for portraying sex and violence. But the acting, screenwriting and directing, and excellence of the World of the Married overcame those criticisms and was highly praised. Ji Sun-woo (Kim Hee-ae) is a respected family physician who has a successful career and married life. She is married to Lee Tae-oh (Park Hae-joon). Although he did not have a successful career, his dream is to become a well-known film director. Although he loves and cares for his wife, he falls in love with Yeo Da-kyung (Han So-hee), the daughter of a powerful and wealthy man in the city.

Thus Ji Sun-woo is unknowingly deceived and betrayed in various ways by her husband as well as by all of her neighbors, friends, and professional colleagues. As soon as these facts are revealed to her, she fights with them and seeks revenge. As a result, the story of The World of The Married flows through the obstacles she faces and the fate of her life and family, depending on how she faces them. Although the two are separated from each other, they do not agree to end the relationship easily. It is the unwillingness of a husband or wife to be defeated.
